The Chess Prodigies board met yesterday and a unanimous vote was taken to authorize $8,000 in new Scholarships to be awarded at the 2023 SuperStates tournament, Southern California’s most prestigious scholastic tournament of the year. The 1st place finisher and representative that competes all rounds at the 40th annual GM Arnold Denker Tournament of High School State Champions will receive a $4,000 scholarship. A second, equally important, $4,000 scholarship will be awarded to the top female player and representative that completes all rounds of the 12th WIM Ruth Haring National Tournament of Girls State Champions. The board graciously agreed to increase the award amount by $1,000 for both winners from the $3,000 awarded in 2022. This increase amounts to a 33% increase in scholarship funds offered which the office of the Executive Director is very pleased to receive. This is all on top of any further generous stipend funds that Chess Prodigies will provide to students to attend these National Invitational tournaments. Now is when the hard work of fundraising this total amount begins! We currently have JUST the right amount to in the Chess Prodigies checking but we will need some funds for general operations starting next year as I have personally been covering any non-scholarship / stipend expenses. Please consider giving today at https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/chessprodigies . If you are a patient type and want ALL of your funds to go to the kids then send checks to: Chess Prodigies CC: Dylan Quercia 4017 Country Club dr. #101 Los Angeles CA, 90019. Thank you for taking the time to read and we hope that you will get involved no matter how much or little you can give! We can always use dedicated volunteers! We have a few events in the works including the Michael Chen Memorial Tournament (TBD in November) that we are sponsoring $1,000+ in scholarships! So look out for our future posts!
