Today Chess Prodigies has created the Michael Chen Memorial Scholarship in order to support a new scholastic tournament to be held in November of 2022 (INFORMATION COMING SOON). Michael Chen was a friend and colleague of our board President, the Dean of Scholastic Chess, Dewain Barber. Here is the heartfelt statement Dean Barber posted last week:
“You were a true friend and always had a smile on your face as you worked with the young children of chess. You will be missed, but remembered by those of us who have volunteered our time and energy towards the betterment of those who will grow up and share the game of chess with so many other young people. RIP Young Fellow” Dean Barber went one step further than just words and donated $500 of his own funds to set up the Memorial Tournament Scholarship for students to use at their college of choice. Moved by these actions, I have decided to donate $200 as well to the fund. The total amount stands at $700 as of 8/31/2022. We hope to raise at least $300 more to give a substantial $1,000 scholarship. Please consider giving as your gift is tax deductible and 100% of the funds will go to the winner’s college tuition to attend their school of choice. Checks: Make checks out to Chess Prodigies and send to: Dylan Quercia 4017 Country Club dr. #101 Los Angeles CA 90019 Paypal: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/chessprodigies PS - Chess Prodigies is an all Volunteer organization so please consider a gift of any size to our “General Fund” that will help cover our expenses. I am covering all of the expenses at the moment but I would be grateful for the support of general community to help as well! Dylan Quercia
